Saighton 50mile RR, Chester - Sunday 5th August
Rode today up near Chester. Mike Jones and Steve Jones were also riding (DOH!!!). They broke with two others after about 8miles. Tried to organise a chase but after 18mile on the front with only 5 others helping I had to admit defeat. Four riders from Warrington RC were spoiling the chase to protect Mike Jones (as if he needs any help!) Missed the next two man break with 5miles to go (wrong position in the bunch, but I'm learning) so managed to get 8th in the bunch sprint at the end to get an overall 14th. Frustrating that no one would come through and chase but it's all experience and bring on the 2008 season!!!
Lyme Road Race (5th August 2007)
Rode the slower race of the two today, other Stone riders in this one were Paul Herbert, Phil, Mac & Paul Jennings. With two laps to go the pace went up on the climb up to Swynnerton and I got away with Paul Herbert and two others. Next time around I attacked at the bottom of the climb and got a decent gap (my dad was watching at the top and said it was 20-25 seconds) but I was brought back with 4/5 miles left.
It came down to a two-man sprint between a PBK rider and me and I managed to just get round him at the finish for my first win! Not bad for a 50p entry fee!
